Frustrating Football

Texas Tech has the upset of the week after dominating No. 5 West Virginia.  Tech rebounded from a loss to Oklahoma by dominating No. 5 West Virginia (49-14) in the most lopsided win over a top 5 team in school history.

Tech putting up 49 points wasn’t all that surprising after the West Virginia defense had given up 108 in the previous two games combined.  It was the Tech defense that shined after shutting down the leading Heisman candidate, Geno Smith.

{Ahhh, what a difference a week makes:  the following analysis is from last week's stellar result, not Saturday's embarrassing blowout.}
The stats tell the whole story ...   West Virginia and Texas combined for 1,158 total yards, 11 touchdowns, three turnovers, two missed field goals, a blocked punt, and eight 4th down attempts.

What else could you ask for when two undefeated Big 12 teams square off?  In the end it was the combined offensive effort from Andrew Bui and Geno Smith that gave West Virginia a 48-45 victory.

STARKVILLE, Miss. -- For the first 30 minutes in Davis Wade Stadium, No. 19 Mississippi State was in control. For most of the second half, Tennessee moved into the driver's seat.
But the Vols were on the wrong end of a big turnover -- and an even bigger fourth-quarter drive -- in a 41-31 loss to Mississippi State on Saturday night in Starkville.

The Vols' loss also overshadowed a stellar night from junior receiver Cordarrelle Patterson, who became the first Tennessee player to score a touchdown on a kick return and a reception since Carl Pickens.  And Patterson's 98-yard kickoff return was one of very few highlights in a first half that saw Mississippi State out-gain the Vols 297-93.

BOOO - HISS!

Certainly made it a lot tougher
during Jay's recoup time this weekend . . . . .
