1882 Bed & Breakfast in PA

Here's where we spent the night,
a most generous birthday gift from Rebecca & Jennie!

More inside pics ...

Even tho somewhat cloudy & rainy for a few hours,
we went to The Christmas Haus in New Oxford (http://www.thechristmashausonline.com/),
found several new ornaments for our tree,
enjoyed lunch at the Haufbrauhaus in Abbottstown (http://germanfoodinpa.com/)
and then arrived at this lovely B&B ...
to {unfortunately} see the U.S. lose the Ryder Cup.

Remember:
NOT thinking about Christmas  -yet!

Signs of the Season

Well, Well, Well ...
It appears that we do indeed have a Pumpkin!
Jay brought it into the house last week.
I'm thinking Grandma Wehrwein's pie
would be mighty delicious.

Glowing windows at night is quite striking, too ...
it's called Christmas Tree Shops,
but I'm in no mood for that season.
Nooo siree, not just yet.

A Bit of Whimsy

Look to the right of the fountain ...
There's a little fella taking a shower.
What a way to coooool off!

Spectacular Sight

By chance, are we trying
to dangle a leg into the water?

CLEVER!

Gotta Be Thankful (...and catch a breath!)

Unreal...   That's the result of two days without our car, plus dreading a diagnosis, AND THEN finding out that n-o-t-h-i-n-g was wrong after all.  How on earth when the mechanic heard the grinding of the motor over the phone as I described my abrupt, unexpected situation Tuesday morning  --  that the engine would not fully engage.  How on earth when the guy from AAA checked various elements before agreeing that it should be towed to the shop.  Gooodness Sakes.  Several rides to work later (...and fearing a big bill), we're very thankful that n-o-t-h-i-n-g had to be repaired, n-o-n-e of the parts had to be replaced, and the Big Breath you now hear is a huge sigh of relief  =  car was returned Thursday afternoon.
          It's been running fine  . . .  so far!

Appears we've got a Punkin' on the way!

Here We Go Again

Here's how the new work week started out for me ...   I didn't even make it out of the driveway as the car tried to turn over, but wouldn't engage at all.   It's in the shop today - we think the fuel pump is the problem.  Earlier this spring the starter was replaced, so had another tow.   Grrrrr . . .

Ready for SEC Football

On Saturday the mailbox brought these key items our way.  Very timely since Labor Day weekend launched the beginning of another exciting college football season.

Thanks, Jen & boys.   And our fridge thanks you, too!

Progress Thus Far

So far, so good I'd say.  My new "Blog Management Business" {. . .taking care of my own site} goes smoothly as long as I can sit down long enough to maneuver through layout, design, gadgets, widgets, formats, et. al.  Really tho, this is simply user friendly and therefore also fun to work with.  Elements are still evolving
{as you might have noticed}.  Ideas keep coming.  Thoughts are always there, but I don't have enough dedicated moments to land that much on a page.  Even so, I was indeed able to spiffy up the blog today.  Take a look around!  As far as I know, all the web links work like a charm.  Please check out other lively blogs and dynamic lyrics/music listed in the right column.  I particularly like the fact that you can see right away when the latest blog entry was made & what it's about.  Helpful!

Tutoring has consumed my time most of all.  I think this house hasn't seen a vacuum since A Coon's Age.  We both have looong work days, do grocery shopping, take care of laundry, trash & the  *kids* .....   pretty familiar, fairly routine.

However, we actually do have some down time.  After all, there's much golf for Jay along w/baseball, NASCAR & his neat books, particularly when he finds them about local history.  It's now College Football Season, so key SEC match-ups began this weekend.  Recently for example, we made a short trip to nearby Columbia, MD for an overnight stay at an elegant B&B which is owned by a fellow DuVal graduate & her husband:  http://www.peralynnainn.com/.  We enjoyed dinner & dancing with a live group, a special feature held monthly.  Of particular note is that the owner's son built the mansion for his parents based on where their family lived while in Germany by integrating his mother's own designs.  Very cool aspects are showcased throughout.

I was able to join three other DuVal gals in early August for a long weekend in the western Maryland mountains at Deep Creek Lake.  Lots of yearbooks, stories, "do you remember?" and beauuu-tiful scenery with assorted activities:  tasty homemade meals, a live play "Inherit the Wind," glass blowing shop, used book store, homemade ice cream shop & a very delicious dinner in celebration of our collective birthdays in what used to be a Victorian home.  Happy 60th, Ladies!

Fourth of July week involved a ton of odd/crazy circumstances revolving around horrible storms in multiple states.  Thousands were without electricity for days.  Difficult effects lingered for most.  Thankfully tho, our vacation w/both daughters & their families went nicely.  We also saw Jay's side of the family a bit since we met them at the Great Wolf Lodge in Cincinnati.  Also, exploring some of both Wheeling & Pittsburgh made the trip go well, too.

Helping friends & family has been a major part of our lives as well.  Jay & I both have friends in crisis mode.  My parents, Jay's sister & husband, our nephew ...  all have been intentional about continued recovery due to severe illnesses.  Very tough.  Super taxing & scary at times.  Mom's eye appt. at the Wills Eye Institute provided an opportunity for them to stay near us for several days in mid-August.  Lots of visiting, visiting, visiting!   Yes Jen, we didn't take photos either.  Goodness sakes.

Hence this blog {for one thing} ...   to offer insights, funnies, unique sidelights, and more.  On this Labor Day Weekend, let's all get some much needed rest.

Time for Harvest? . . .(and in related news) Here's the Culprit!

Quite a Big One Now
{have no idea where the plant came from
...maybe birds 'dropped' a seed}

Perhaps ready for harvest soon?
Ummm, what's this?
Nibbles have clearly taken the tops
off this nearby  plant  weed.

Look - The Culprit!
The entire time the cats & I were outside, this Little Guy
never changed locations or seemed frightened.
Only once did he crouch down with both ears laid back.
Jay & I have seen the very same Bunny in our yard frequently.  Fearless indeed.  But likely The Culprit, too.

Miss Daisy & Oliver on the prowl ...
I actually think they didn't spot it.
They mostly found bugs & tiny crawling things.
